Work Crew
In Massachusetts, Sheriffs are empowered to utilize inmate labor to improve public grounds and buildings at no expense to taxpayers. Inmate work crews provide a variety of services to non-profit organizations such as schools and municipal agencies. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office operates a Community Service Program that may be helpful to municipalities and non-profit organization during these tough economic times.
The inmate work program has allowed the county to accomplish more with less. Using inmate labor has saved tax dollars and allowed projects that would have otherwise been deferred to reach fruition. Examples of Community Service projects include interior and exterior renovation, painting, snow removal and landscape maintenance. The requesting agency is required only to provide the supplies necessary for the project.
